Water being a precious resource – rather a lifeline to the humanity – is getting scarce day by day. The more populous regions experiencing rapid urbanisation and fast depletion of water resources need utmost priority to act for conserving water and augmenting supply thereof. Rainwater Harvesting can make an important contribution in this regard. Keeping in view the importance and urgent attention the subject of urban water management and conservation deserves, UN-HABITAT in pursuance of targets 10 and 11 of MDG 7 has been working to promote approaches which may help water scarce cities and towns to meet the challenges on a sustainable basis.

In order to meet the challenges of water scarcity,UN-HABITAT and Coca-Cola India & South West Asia (Coca-Cola INSWABU) entered into a partnership and signed an agreement on 14 April, 2007 during the launch of Business Partnership for Sustainable Urbanization (BPSU) in Nairobi to collaborate for improving community access to water and
sanitation in India and Nepal under the Water for Asian Cities (WAC) Programme. UN-HABITAT and Coca-Cola INSWABU made
