The Urban EbA Community Orientation Handbook is a resource prepared for local communities and stakeholders in the Kathmandu Valley. It introduces the concept of Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA) and explains climate change, its causes, and its impacts on water, agriculture, food security, forests, biodiversity, health, women, and urban settlements.
The handbook helps communities understand how climate change affects everyday life through issues such as water shortage, urban flooding, rising heat, landslides, forest fires, health risks, and livelihood challenges. It also encourages local people to take part in protecting ecosystems, promoting green practices, and supporting climate-resilient development at the community level. This resource is intended for local residents, Neighborhood (tole) Development Committees, women’s groups, youth clubs, schools, community forest user groups, and climate-affected communities. It supports awareness, participation, and local ownership of Urban EbA actions in Kathmandu Valley.
This handbook has been prepared under the Urban Ecosystem-Based Adaptation for Climate-Resilient Development in the Kathmandu Valley project, funded by GEF, implemented by UNEP in collaboration with KVDA, with UN-Habitat Nepal as the technical partner.
