As Nepal continues to strengthen its disaster recovery and resilience-building efforts, lessons from past experiences remain essential for shaping future responses. Recognizing the importance of learning from recovery interventions and promoting evidence-based approaches to resilience building, UNDP Nepal, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the Government of Japan in collaboration with UN-Habitat Nepal and partners organized a knowledge-sharing workshop titled “Insights on Post-Earthquake Recovery: Experiences from Western Nepal and Beyond” under the Livelihood Improvement and Disaster Resilience Enhancement (LIDRE) Project.

Held in Birendranagar, Surkhet, the workshop brought together representatives from federal, provincial, and local governments, development partners, academia, technical experts, and community representatives from earthquake-affected areas in Jajarkot and Rukum West. The event provided a valuable platform to reflect on recovery achievements following the 2023 Jajarkot Earthquake, exchange experiences from Nepal and other disaster-prone countries, and identify pathways for strengthening resilience and preparedness for future disasters. Discussions focused on how recovery efforts can move beyond rebuilding damaged infrastructure to restoring livelihoods, strengthening institutions, and empowering communities to become more resilient.
